BeFour Using Open Source Software in Production

Last month on NetworkWorld’s Open Source Subnet, there was a great post by Kim Weins on her Essential Open Source blog entitled Four Considerations When Using Open Source in Production.  I strongly encourage you to read Kim’s short and insightful post where she explores and explains the four areas listed below:

  1. Understand ALL the licenses
  2. Vet the project and community
  3. Watch out for incidental distribution
  4. Don’t forget about support

Since I tend, as a commons sourcing lawyer, to focus primarily on the first point, I thank Kim for reminding us that all of these things need to be addressed “BeFour” using open source software in production!
