Silence is not golden – Does Oracle care about open source?

My TweetDeck is humming this morning with links back to Dana Blankenhorn’s The worst thing Oracle can do to open source is not care on the ZDNet Open Source blog.  After bravely admitting that an earlier post was in error, Dana puts forward a powerful argument that Oracle’s “silence has many customers wondering whether Oracle is interested in open source at all”.  The overall situation reminds me of a George Bernard Shaw quote:  “The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that’s the essence of inhumanity.”  While the quote may be overly harsh, it is a poignant reminder that sometimes Silence is not golden!
